Allergy & Immunology

Watch our very own Steven V. Stryk, M.D. discuss diagnosing Allergy conditions for patients.

In 2010, Americans with nasal swelling lost more than 6 million work and school days and made 16 million visits to their doctor!

Allergies are a major cause of illness in the United States. In fact, up to 50 million Americans have some type of allergy.

At Canton Asthma & Allergy we treat children and adults for all types of allergies including:

  • Chronic ear and sinus infections (sinusitis)
  • Dermatitis (rashes, skin allergies, contact dermatitis)
  • Eczema (atopic dermatitis)
  • Hives (urticaria)
  • Hay fever (allergic rhinitis, outdoor allergies)
  • Drug allergies (reactions to Penicillin, antibiotics and other medications)
  • Food allergies (peanuts, dairy, eggs, wheat, shellfish, etc.)
  • Cosmetic allergies (health and beauty aids, hair dye)
  • Insect allergies (bees, wasps, hornets, etc.)
  • Pet and animal allergies
  • Latex allergies
  • Environmental and occupational allergies (dust, mold, pollen, chemicals, pollutants, etc.)
  • Immunological diseases

People can have different reactions to allergens, from mild symptoms such as watery eyes or sneezing, to life-threatening symptoms. If you have allergies, it is important to seek treatment.

At Canton Asthma & Allergy, we can perform allergy tests in each of our offices and begin treatment for allergies immediately. If you suffer from airborne allergies or hay fever, early intervention can completely erase or significantly reduce symptoms. Moreover, recent research indicates that asthma may be prevented if allergies are treated early enough with allergy shots.

Pediatric Allergies and Testing

As parents themselves, our clinicians know how important it is to maintain a kid-friendly environment in our office. At Canton Asthma & Allergy, our doctors and staff have warm, friendly, down-to-earth communication skills that ease kids’ fears about going to the doctor and make each visit a positive experience.

Standard skin testing does not use needles. Testing is performed by a light scratch to the test site, and the site is then observed for a reaction. Testing is relatively painless and very quick.

For food allergies, we perform a graded food challenge, which means we will give your child increasing doses of the food(s) that we believe he or she is allergic to.

At Canton Asthma & Allergy, you can be assured that the patient will receive the highest quality, most compassionate allergy care in the metro Detroit area.
